While a sunny summer day seems like the perfect time to clean your car, cleaning in hot weather presents unique challenges.
Heat and sunlight require a slightly different washing method than you are used to.
Here are some quick and brief tips for washing your car in summer.
Things to be aware of.
1. Choose the right time and place of day.
Never wash in direct sunlight. It's a race against the sun that you will never win.
Preferably wash at the end of the day when the sun is not too harsh. Never wash a hot car. Cool it down first.
2. Choose the right products for the job.
Do not start using iron remover and strong chemicals on a hot summer day. You better wait for an overcast moment another time.
You don't want these products to dry in, as that can do far more harm than good. The same applies to strong APCs, acid-based wheel cleaners, etc.
3. Prepare before you start.
Connect the pressure washer, turn on the water, fill the buckets, and gather all the things you need. It's no good constantly going back and forth because we need to find what we're missing, causing the products to dry.
4. Focus on smaller areas at a time, so it doesn't dry on you.
Preparation is half the work, so lay out a short battle plan so you don't get completely stuck in the middle of the project and end up spending more time than necessary.
5. Work quickly and efficiently.
It's really annoying if the products dry and leave stains on the car's windows and paint. If you are unlucky, they can only be removed by polishing, and we want to avoid that.
6. Know your own limitations.
It's just hard to wash a car in 25-30 degree heat. Whether you're standing in the shade, half-naked, or doing a miss wet t-shirt outside.
The energy is not the same, and things are just a lot harder in the heat. Sunscreen, drink some water, and if you have a cap, wear it.
Accept that the energy and time are not right to get perfectly into every nook and cranny.
